It’s all relative….

It's all relative..

Having big goals is super necessary, but sometimes they need to be adjusted for reality.

While it sounds cool to push a message telling people they can ‘achieve any goal they are capable of thinking of’, unfortunately this is not the case. It is so easy to get caught up in all the ‘relentless positivity’ hype, that it is easy to get carried away and pin your hopes on some kind of crazy transformation happening with your job/personal life/physical or mental condition, that people ignore the fact that they still need to put in significant work. The bigger the goal, the more work is required!

The tumultuous events of the last 18 months are starting to take an obvious physical and mental toll on many of us. Conversations in recent times with a range of people keep coming back to the same 2-3 issues that are causing significant struggle.

  1. Weight gain.                                                                                           Typically anywhere from 5-10kgs over the past 18 months primarily due to being sedentary, comfort eating, and stress.
  2. Stress.                                                                                                          Usually manifesting in elevated blood pressure, trouble sleeping, and trouble concentrating,
  3. Fatigue.                                                                                                            The number of people asking ‘why am I always tired all the time? I struggle to make it through a regular day..’ is growing rapidly and becoming a cause for concern.

“Newsflash – if you’ve been out of shape for years, it’s going to take more than a couple of months to undo .”

Like it or not, circumstances at the moment are less than ideal for most of us. That is beyond our control.

What is not out of our control is how we respond and adapt to the situation we find ourselves in. Or how seriously we choose to be when trying to reverse/undo some of the unwanted side effects. Part of this involves being honest with ourselves when assessing our goals, and the timeframe and amount of effort we are prepared to devote to achieving them.

Newsflash – if you’ve been out of shape for years, it’s going to take more than a couple of months to undo that…..longterm body recomposition and the healthy indicators that accompany it aren’t achieved overnight. Instead of following a plan for 6 weeks, then chopping and changing because ‘after 2 months it hasn’t got me where I want to be’ or giving up altogether because ‘exercise doesn’t work for me’, the most important thing people need to do is stay the course, and don’t forget – you get out what you put in!

Facilitating Change

Do It!

For change to sufficiently impact us in any way, it usually needs to be BIG!

Think about all the people you know who are dissatisfied with any particular aspect of their life….They seek change on a large enough scale to be life changing, and listening to people outline their Hopes and Dreams of how they wish things were Different, it is often clear how much time and effort they have put into thinking through all the “what ifs”.

“The question is, if realistic, significant change is such a desirable thing for so many people, then why are they in such a hurry to shortchange themselves in terms of how much time and effort they are willing to devote to it?”

As someone who has been training others for the past 2 decades, one of the most consistent, and disappointing surprises that only seems to be growing more prevalent is the willingness of people to pair their huge desire for change with an unwillingness to make change a priority or devote any kind of significant time or other resources to it whatsoever.

Like it or not, we are where we are in life due to decisions we have or have not made that have led us to this point. This applies to all aspects of life and includes our physical and mental condition. Whilst there are medical conditions and medication side effects that may restrict our control over our physical and mental condition somewhat, for the vast majority of us, we are what we are (or aren’t what we aren’t) purely as a result of decisions we have made.

That means that if we try to cut corners in terms of being physically active and eating healthy, sooner or later it catches up with us. And so long as we keep cutting those corners, there is no chance of achieving our health and fitness goals.

Furthermore, this attitude creeps into other aspects of our lives, until we eventually find ourselves dissatisfied or frustrated by the lack of progress/development/change we are experiencing, despite it being directly linked to our unwillingness to go through the proper steps required.

Now, flip that……by developing the discipline and focus required to put in the work required to achieve our health and fitness goals, it is inevitable that we not only develop physical strength and resilience, but also mental fortitude that we can then apply to other areas of our life.                                              SO the effort is most definitely worth it – and while you will end up getting in the best shape you’ve ever been in, the mindset you develop is equally as important to your success in life.

Greatness is waiting….Don’t be late!

The FIDOSAR!

It can be easy to get confused by all the outlandish claims that are made relating to ways you can:

‘Achieve the perfect body in just 90 seconds a day!’

‘Lose as much weight as you want, with our revolutionary program – it doesn’t even require exercise!’

People ask ‘How do I know if what they say is real or not? How do I know if this program that seems too good to be true will actually get me those amazing results?

It’s all about FIDOSAR!

F requency – if you don’t train enough, nothing will happen.

I ntensity – if you don’t train hard enough, nothing will happen.

D uration – if you don’t train for long enough, nothing will happen.

O verload – if you don’t increase the ‘difficulty’ of your sessions over time, nothing will happen.                        The more ‘conditioned/trained’ you are, the more overload you require. We can                               apply overload by adjusting Frequency, Intensity and Duration.

S pecificity – if you don’t train for your specific goal……nothing will happen.

A daption – your body will adapt to the demands you place on it (within reason) – SOMETHING                       will happen! Adaptation will occur in response to Frequency, Intensity, Duration and                      Specificity.

R eversibility – AKA ‘Use it or lose it’ Any gains (or losses) you make will be reversed if you do                         not keep up with your training.

Effective programming involves the manipulation of a number of these variables, and as a general rule, if you can not see evidence of this in your ‘dream program’ the reason is because it is all ‘dream’ and not any kind of effective program.

If you are unsure of how to train effectively, or whether your current program is everything it claims to be, feel free to email or DM us, or check our page to see what we can offer you!

Reason or Excuse?

Reason or Excuse?

Don’t let 2021 become another case of different year, same story.

By Jay Gee

It’s not unusual to have complete strangers going into great detail about their unrealized health and fitness aspirations within a couple of minutes of meeting them. And while it’s always great to hear peoples’ goals and ambitions, strangely enough, the excitement and enthusiasm in their voices  disappears completely, without fail, once  asked “How do you accommodate your goals into your current routine?”

Then, usually, the gunners come out.

“I’m gunna start when……”

Or even worse

“I was gunna start but…………..you know.”

The average person has 3-5 barriers (usually self implemented) that prevent them from participating in regular activity. These typically concern some combination of available time, access to resources, confidence (or lack thereof), and financial circumstances.

“One person’s excuse is another person’s reason. The results you get are determined by how you choose to see and react to things”

The current global climate has made it easier than ever to attribute lack of success in achieving your goals to outside factors…..and in large part, this is why flashfit began to operate in an online capacity.                                   Online platform means access issues =REMOVED.

20 years of programming experience combined with a desire to never stop learning and refining, means that we can provide effective training programs tailored to individual client needs….. we work around time restrictions and can incorporate any equipment you may have access to – but have no requirements other than space to move freely (your living room or hallway is more than sufficient!)                                                                                                   Time and resource issues= REMOVED.

Online Personal Training means you can avoid the often prohibitive cost of in person sessions – pay in a month what many pay for just one real time session! We include full support for all our clients with Zoom follow ups and can be contacted via email, in app messaging or any of the main social media channels for any questions/queries or fears/uncertainties you may have. We are here to support you every step of the way!                                      Financial considerations and confidence/motivation issues = REMOVED.

Don’t get it twisted – it takes effort! As does anything worth achieving. But we work with you to ensure you are always progressing in the right direction and staying on track. If there are any other ‘Obstacles to Exercise’ you feel have not been mentioned, leave us a comment below or send us a DM/email, and we’ll address it!

FlashFit is here!

2021! 2020 Won?

By now, if you set New Years Resolutions, you are probably ruing (again) how you haven’t kept up with them the way you resolved to………Or, you may be wondering why 2021 just seems to be picking up right where 2020 finished (funny that!) instead of everything wrong in the world magically righting itself at 00.01 on January 1, 2021 as many would have had us believe.

But it didn’t. It’s not. It won’t. So we are here. Now.

And after a year of observing steadily intensifying unhappiness and stress based on variations of the same 3 things,  we finally have things in place to launch FlashFit online!

That means….wherever in the world you live, however much space you have available (indoor or outdoor), whatever equipment you do (or don’t) have access to, we have you covered.

We realize that health and fitness is about more than just how you look in your underwear, and act accordingly. In a time when everyone is concerned about one or more of:

1) Physical Health and Fitness

2)Mental and Emotional Wellbeing                                                                                                  (stats that show the impact the various forms of lockdown/social isolation etc have had on mental health are frightening)

3)Financial Stability                                                                                                                               (We can’t put more money your pocket, but we can minimise the effect that 1) and 2) have on 3)!

We realize the importance of exercise programs and nutrition guidelines that are able to be followed without needing a Masters degree in Physiology and are able to be integrated into the daily life of a regular person. With step by step explanation videos, advanced tracking software that enables us to track your progress (or lack of) and adjust accordingly, and in-app personalized messaging and video feedback available, we strive to provide a set up where all you need to add is EFFORT.

Stay tuned for our official launch and more information about our 7 week welcome program coming very soon!
